The Online Maths Tutor - About Me
Hi, I'm Carl Evans - The Online Maths Tutor. I have a decade of experience providing friendly and enthusiastic one to one maths tuition for Key Stage 3, GCSE, Further GCSE and A Level.
I have a BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics and a BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences.
Prior to becoming a full time tutor I had a successful career within the pharmaceutical industry, monitoring and reporting adverse events to health authorities from both trial and marketed drugs.
In 2012, I decided to change career to one I felt passionate about, and began working part time as a maths tutor whilst completing a mathematics degree with the Open University.
As I enjoyed the experience of tutoring maths to young people so much, I decided to make it my full-time job. I consider it a privilege to work with children and young adults, see their maths confidence grow and positively impact their lives.
When not working as an online maths tutor I spend much of my time keeping fit by cycling, pilates and hiking with Delphi, my Belgian Shepherd rescue dog. I enjoy studying other subjects such as physics and astronomy and have a large computerized telescope to observe the night sky.
Finally, I am keen on photography and enjoy taking shots of coastal landscapes and the South Downs near my home in Seaford, East Sussex.
In recent years there has been a huge growth in the number of agencies offering maths tuition at very competitive rates. Many agency tutors are recent graduates or currently at university, and in need of some extra cash. They may have excellent subject knowledge and exam technique but equally important is whether they are able to communicate that knowledge to younger students who are just getting their heads around new and abstract mathematical concepts. Academic excellence does not necessarily make you a good teacher - explanative skills are far more important. I became really good at tutoring maths after many years of developing these skills. After almost a decade, I am able to understand the individual needs of each student and provide bespoke online maths tuition that meets their requirements - whether it's KS3 maths tuition, GCSE maths tuition or A Level maths tuition.
Unlike some subjects, maths builds upon previous foundational topics, so identifying weaknesses is very important and is something I always address early on. I also encourage students to not fear mathematical 'dead ends' or misconceptions. All maths students encounter problems along the way and it is the act of working through problems that produces results. For learning to take place, students need to feel at ease, not worry about saying something 'stupid' and feel comfortable to make mistakes. I am calm, kind and extremely patient, so it doesn’t matter how many times we have to repeat a concept. We will persevere until it is eventually understood.
I genuinely enjoy working with young people and feel fortunate to have a positive input into their educational journey. But don’t take my word for it, please look at my testimonials to find out what people are saying about my online maths tuition. In addition, I offer a FREE lesson for all prospective students.
